Mädchentraum

Oil and needlework on canvas, 80+cm x 100cm, 2017-2022

The motif of this piece is based on the annual parade of the traditional Gildes of Zürich. It is tradition for the spectators to give flowers to the participants they know, and the girls are holding bunches of flowers in their hands. That is also why the painting was never finished… I did not have the patience to paint flowers in a satisfying manner. The painting was never finished but had a special place in my studio, as there were other parts of it that I liked The unfinished piece is part of the collection ‘Königskinder’.

When I had the good fortune of stumbling over a box of vintage needlepoints, I was racking my brains on what to do with them, until one day, when I walked into my studio and the idea of integrating them into this unfinished painting was born! Two old fashioned crafts combined, to create something new and fresh. I was exited!

This was the first piece, where I integrated needlepoint into an existing oil painting.
